We would all pile in the car to go to my grandma’s house. The smell of turkey when we got there. All the kids would go in the basement while all the grownups played cards upstairs. If I could back time.

Maybe one of the years when we all went around taking turns saying what we were thankful for in my family. It was especially meaningful when I wasn’t working and had been having some tough times.

My Mom was the best cook. She spent days preparing and cooking a feast for all her family. I remember how happy and pleased she looked when everyone devoured her food. I have never tasted anything as delicious since.

I don;t have one specific memory that is a favorite. I remember all of my childhood and younger adult Thanksgivings as having the house stuffed with loved ones and my mother’s special china and silverware and wonderful smells and happy noise and chatter. I remember the warmth and the glow of being with all my loved ones. I am so grateful that I have these memories and had the family that I did!

It was the year after my mom had passed, my gram was gone… i was worried that my daughter would never know true family Thanksgivings. My aunt came up to spend the holiday with us. My mom was her sister and best friend, and she was hurting as well. We were in the kitchen preparing everything, and suddenly she started singing and dancing around the kitchen. My daughter and I joined and we were laughing and dancing. We spent the night before the holiday playing games and watching movies. and it proved to me that it isnt the number of people, but the people themselves. We had our family and it was great.
